About Me
My name is Henry Demarest and I am a Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science double major at Yale University. I am originally from Tarrytown, NY, a town about 20 miles north of New York City. I have always been interested in understanding how things work, loving to take things apart and put them back together since I was a child. Since high school, this interest has manifested itself in my interests in mechanical engineering and computer science, with a particular focus on space exploration and machine learning applications for these fields. If you are interested in my experience in these fields, please check out my resume, internship/research, projects, and educational background. Additionally, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Outside of my technical experience, I also have a bunch of other interests that are seen through my involvements on campus. Some examples of this can be found below:
FOOT - I have always loved the outdoors, and as such, decided to become a FOOT (First Year Outdoor Orientation Trip) leader. This means that every year, I lead a group of ~8 first year students on a 4 day backpacking trip to help ease their transition to college and provide them with an awesome experience in nature. I have really enjoyed this role and the community of other FOOT leaders that it has introduced me to.
Music - Since I was young, playing music was always a fun thing that I could do both with friends and on my own, which led me to learn the viola and piano. To continue this hobby in college, I auditioned for and was accepted into the Davenport Pops Orchestra, a student-run orchestra at Yale University. Through this group, I have gotten the chance to play fun songs such as the theme songs to Despicable Me or Squid Game on the viola, and have loved every minute of it!
Running - Ever since joining cross country and track and field in high school, running has been a big part of who I am. Although I did not continue this pursuit at a varsity level, I have loved the opportunity to run with the Yale Club Running team since I first stepped on campus. I have really embraced this club as much as I can, running marathons with other members of the team in Spring 2022 and 2023 and becoming a captain of the club.
